Gunung Kawi, Tampaksiring, Indonesia |
April 2014
Gunung Kawi is a Hindu temple complex that's centered around royal tomb shrines which were carved into stone cliffs in the early 11th century. 300+ steps and amazing rice terrace views on the way down - and some little trails and temples within caves to explore - has a mystical, magical sort of Machu Picchu meets Indiana Jones feel to it, and virtually no other tourists there the day I went! (As opposed to nearby Pura Tirta Empul- big crowds). Don't miss this if you're in the Ubud area!
