Yosemite, May 2014 |
Highlights:
-Running (part of the) Halfdome trail. Whole thing wasn't open for the season yet.
-Vernal fall, Nevada fall, John Muir trail. Mirror lake, Snow Creek Trail.
-Sitting in my camping chair, sipping french press coffee and reading a book at trailhead parking lots in between adventures. Met some interesting characters out there.
-Waterfalls, waterfalls, waterfalls... and bears.
-Glorious sunrise views from camp and on my bike... and eery night hikes.
-Somehow snagged a campsite at the quirky, crowded, walk-up "Camp 4" climbing village. You can hear your neighbors (3 feet away, in their tent) snoring, but for 5 bucks a night- who cares!
-Giant community breakfasts with a bunch of climbing fanatics in the woods.
Yup, there's something to embrace about traveling alone, just a map and a tent and a tank of gas (and maybe a car full of all your life's possessions)...
Yosemite: a magical place... an overly tourist-filled place... but still a place to cross off the list while road trippin' :-)
